Its time to end the confusion. Some people fear carbs like the devil *cough* Atkins
Others are addicted to carbs and sugar like crack
Myself? I use my hit it and quit it philosophy to carbs to get leaner instead of fatter.
Lets check it out.
Keep it simple. Carbs are used for energy. The problem is most people eat too many carbs on days where they are NOT active. Instead days you work out and exercise you should consume more, days you do not need energy, you shouldn’t eat them. Simple!
Follow these three rules with carbs to get rid of those love handles and get some more love.
1. For weight loss only eat 100grams or less per day, I’d recommend 100 on work out days, 50 or less on non-work out days Never eat more than 30grams in a serving- The reason is simple, you don’t want to spike your insulin and store them as fat.
2. Timing: Eat them in the morning, and around your work out, avoid them late at night. At the start of the day is when you need your energy, not at the beginning, so why get it twisted?
3. What carbs to eat? Only eat carbs that are either vegetables, fruits, ancient grains (quionia, amanranth), squashes, low GI tubers, or beans and lentils avoid everything else. Yes including the bread.
Last Tip: Green Vegetables count as free carbs or zero calories. Seriously, no one ever got fat eating celery and they are WAY too healthy for ya. Look at the Green Giant, he’s got jacked and lean by eating green.

Q: How do you keep healthy after losing all that weight and also what is the best way to keep weight off ?
A:I never binge and eat everything in moderation. Also, I never ignore my cravings. I eat whenever a craving strikes, but in small portions. When I felt like chocolates three weeks ago, I didn’t hold back, I took a small piece. When I’m traveling I carry an apple or sandwich or health bars to satisfy myself without piling on excess calories.
My grandmother taught me to sip on warm water first thing in the morning. It flushes out toxins from the system. I follow it up with honey and lime water. Another must for me is a ‘no smoking’ atmosphere, at home, work or in public places.
A lot of people still think starving can help you stay slim.
Yeah, looking at my figure people often assume that I don’t eat much. On the contrary, I eat every two hours. Since my day is packed with strenuous physical activity swimming or working I never allow myself to go hungry for too long. If I feel peckish I snack on nuts and dry fruits.
Drinking plenty of fluids through the day is also a must for me. I drink coconut water every hour or two; it not only quenches my thirst but also helps me feel fun. Other natural drinks such as cucumber juice and a glass of skim milk also help me stay hydrated and keep my energy levels up.
I am quite particular about avoiding fried foods and sweets. Salt and sugar are silent killers so I consume both in moderation by switching to natural sugars and seasoning in my food.
What are your learnings from your weight-loss journey?
Erratic work schedules often make maintaining your weight difficult. But its possible as long as you eat healthy every day and work out atleast three times a week for no more than 30 minutes. Also its important to undergo a medical check-up to ensure that you havn’t put on weight due to a medical condition. And, finally weight loss is possible and everyone can do it only if they make a conscious effort and make it a priority in their life for at-least 2 months. I promise the combination of healthy diet and right exercises is the real magical formula of weight loss.
